The Washington Post food critic Tom Sietsema released his final yearly list of his 40 favorite restaurants in the DC area. His selection includes Karravaan by Chef Sanjay Mandhaiya, a fine dining restaurant inspired by the cuisines and cultural exchange of the historic Silk Route, and nationally acclaimed Indian street food restaurant Chai Pani. Both culinary destinations opened in the bustling Union Market District this Summer.
“This year has not been kind to the restaurant industry, or to those who enjoy a break from their own cooking—diners,” Tom says in his preamble to his list of his favorite places to eat in the Washington Area—adding that he wants “to celebrate, one last time, some of the many places that make the District one of the best food cities in the country.”
