Dale A. Stewart, AIA

Principal

Dale co-founded CORE in 1991 as a design-oriented firm providing excellent service. With 35 years experience in the DC area on projects ranging from master planning to base building architecture, historic preservation, and adaptive re-use, and from retail and restaurants to commercial interiors. He understands the complex approval process of local design review boards. Dale has a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Maryland, is licensed in 14 states, and is NCARB Certified. His projects have received numerous local and national design awards.

Guy Martin, AIA

Principal

Guy has been a noted architect in Washington, DC for more than 30 years, and his design ability has been recognized with numerous awards and publications. Guy has a Master of Architecture from Princeton University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Architecture in Urban Design, magna cum laude from Princeton University. He is a licensed architect in 10 states and is NCARB certified. Guy has lectured at UVA, the Architectural League of NY, Catholic University, and The National Trust for Historic Preservation.

Allison Cooke, IIDA, LEED AP

Principal

Allison, director of hospitality design at CORE, leads the firm’s restaurant work while also providing direction and feedback for the interiors of libraries, residential buildings, office buildings, and hotel interiors. Clients love her ability to seamlessly shift between creative brainstorming and straightforward conversation about technical requirements. A natural leader and presenter, she is quickly building a portfolio of significant speaking engagements across the country focusing on the varied aspects of restaurant design. Allison has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from Miami University of Ohio. She is NCIDQ Certified, and is a LEED Accredited Professional.

David Cheney, AIA

Principal

David is the leading voice in the firm’s technical direction. As Director of Operations, he has established a process-oriented approach to design and construction. David leads weekly management meetings and mentors staff in professional development. He builds the portfolio of boutique base-building projects, varying anywhere from new construction to strategic repositioning, and oversees many of the firm’s cultural, mixed-use, public, and historic projects. David has a Bachelor of Architecture, Cum Laude, from Norwich University. He is registered in DC, MD, NY, VA, and VT, and is NCARB certified.

Ann Marie Avellino

Business Manager/Controller

Ann Marie Avellino is a seasoned financial manager with over 25 years professional experience in managing overall corporate finances, in Fortune 500 as well as small to mid size companies. At CORE she establishes working relationships based upon respect, encouragement and trust. She is responsible for all corporate finances, human resources and facility management. Ann Marie is a member of the National Association of Professional Women and the Society of Human Resource Management.

Carly Lisnow

A native of Los Angeles, Carly joined CORE full-time in 2015 following a 2014 internship as a resource librarian. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from The George Washington University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design and minors in Art History & Fine Arts. She also studied abroad in Berlin, Germany. While living in Germany, she analyzed the current architectural and design challenges within a global context. Carly has always had an appreciation for creative spaces, contemporary art and the foodie culture. She incorporates these interests into restaurant design and concept development. She is an Associate IIDA member.

Christopher Peli

Christopher is involved in many of CORE’s diverse project types, ranging from hospitality to urban design and from renovation to new construction. His previous experience includes designing high-end residential homes, condo interiors, and art galleries in New York City. He has a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Design from Ball State University where he gained extensive experience in digital fabrication and Building Information Modeling (BIM). He remains active in architectural education as a critic for Ball State and the Corcoran College of Art + Design. He is currently pursuing his architectural license.

Daniel C. Chapman, NCIDQ, LEED AP

Daniel has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design from the University of Cincinnati’s School of Design, Architecture, Art & Planning. After six internships in NYC and DC, including two at CORE and a foreign study in Copenhagen, he joined the CORE hospitality design staff in 2009. Daniel has an accomplished design eye, which he combines with advanced computer graphic skills. His primary focus is on hospitality work, including restaurants and hotel design. Danny works on all aspects of projects from concept design through construction.

Daniel Kalinowski, Assoc. AIA

Daniel joined CORE in 2014 after graduating from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Architecture, Cum Laude. While at Syracuse, he studied in Italy and the UK where he strengthened his passion for cultural diversity and regional and historic architecture. Daniel brings an open design mind and strong sketching abilities to the CORE team. He is an Associate AIA member and is currently pursuing licensure.

Daniel Mayo

Daniel's diverse skill set has allowed him to work on various project types, which range from commercial office and base buildings to multi-family housing, corporate interiors and restaurant design. He has an interest in industrial design and in international architecture, studying extensively in Italy and Finland. Daniel has participated in global competitions, exercising his passion for design. Daniel holds a Bachelor of Science in Architecture and a Master's of Architecture with a concentration in Sacred Space and Cultural Studies from the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. Daniel is currently pursuing architectural licensure.

Dean Hutchison

Dean works on a wide range of project types at CORE, from base building office to multi-family residential and institutional buildings as well as retail tenancy fit-outs. Dean excels in all phases of projects, from design to construction administration; and goes out of his way to establish strong relationships with those involved. Dean has a M.Arch. from Catholic University of America and a Bachelor of Social Work from the University of Central Florida.

Eleni Georgia Vakalopoulos

Eleni has a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute, NY and a BS in Architecture from The Catholic University of America, Washington DC. With over five years of experience, her work encompasses commercial office buildings, corporate interiors, retail, renovations, restaurants and custom residential projects. She has participated in the development, detailing and presentation for certain segments of a multi-discipline award-winning international project. She persistently seeks pragmatic and expressive solutions that promote functionality, adaptability and design excellence. Eleni is an Associate AIA member and is currently pursuing licensure.

Hilary Miners

Hilary is a project designer at CORE and has worked on designing retail, restaurant, and hospitality spaces in Washington, DC and Philadelphia, PA. Her ability to design at many scales has allowed her to work on a range of projects at CORE from prototype design for new retail and hospitality spaces to master retail planning for large office buildings and multi-family housing. Her strong user-based and experiential design understanding allows her to create innovative concept narratives, pushing the envelope of design by looking at obstacles of budget, tight timeframes, and site conditions as tools for decision making rather than restrictions. Hilary has a Bachelor of Science in Architecture, minor in Studio Art, and a Master of Architecture from Washington University in St. Louis. She is currently pursuing her architectural license.

Johanna Belanger

Johanna received both her Bachelor of Science of Architecture and her Master of Architecture degrees from Catholic University of America. Through several opportunities to travel abroad, Johanna developed a passion for sketching and urban design. She is interested in how architecture can encourage people to interact within public spaces. Johanna brings to CORE the ability to design through multiple scales from urban to detail. Johanna is pursuing licensure.

Kristin Carleton, AIA, NCIDQ

Kristin has combined training and work experience in architecture, interior design, and lighting design. She is involved in many aspects of our production processes from concept design to construction execution on various projects at CORE. She specializes in developing cohesive brand identities through design for retail spaces, office settings, and hospitality environments. Kristin has a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Design from James Madison University and a Master of Architecture from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).

Marie C. Vogt, LEED AP

Marie is a senior project manager at CORE. She is highly valued for her leadership success in directing complex projects with a high level of design innovation and technical experience in both base building and interior architecture. As a team manger and project architect, she has been responsible for structuring project teams and fees, project schedules, consultant coordination, and project design and delivery. She is a highly effective communicator with clients, consultants and contractors and is quickly adaptive to changing project priorities. Her wide range of experience in work place interiors, multi-family residential, large scale government projects and design build projects has given her keen insight and a holistic approach to project process and delivery.

Marina Laurence

Motivated by the sense of being that architecture and interior space provide, Marina centered her master’s thesis on phenomenology, conceptualizing a mixed-use retail experience that exposes the parallels between fashion and architecture. She has a keen understanding of blending finish palettes and materials for a harmonious result to strengthen the architectural design. She has vast experience in sourcing products and furnishings, even creating custom elements when the application demands. Marina received her Master of Arts in Interior Design from the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design at The George Washington University in 2015. Prior to joining CORE, Marina managed the digital advertising team at National Pubic Radio and brings 10+ years of project management experience.

Marisa A. Colligan, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP

Marisa is a project architect at CORE. With several years of experience in architectural design, construction and project management, Marisa contributes a wide range of knowledge in project sectors such as the Federal Government, Aviation, Corporate, and Master Planning. Marisa has a rich desire for diversity in project types, innovation in systems, and sustainability. She received both her Bachelors of Science in Architecture and Masters of Architecture, concentrating in Urban Practice, from The Catholic University of America. She is a member of the Tau Sigma Delta Honor Society, a LEED AP since 2009, and an Associate AIA since 2015. Marisa is currently pursuing her Architectural Licensing.

Michael Borissow

Michael joined CORE in 2012. Since 2008, he has worked on various low and mid-rise residential projects in Washington, DC, including additions, renovations, and historic preservation. Michael demonstrates a broad range of knowledge working in all phases of base building design and has developed a keen understanding of exterior skin systems. His software abilities and fresh ideas are a great asset to CORE. Michael has a Bachelor of Architecture from Philadelphia University.

Ron Ngiam, AIA

Ron is highly accomplished in taking the complex needs of owners, regulatory authorities, and the opportunities and limitations of site and context, and distilling them into clear and coherent architecture. Ron has over 28 years of experience leading design teams on award winning projects. His projects have included master planning, office and residential buildings, commercial interiors, retail, and restaurants. Ron has a Bachelor of Architecture from Texas Tech University. He is a licensed architect in Washington, DC, and is NCARB certified. He is also a member of the Cleveland Park Historic Architectural Review Committee.

Smriti Nayak

Smriti joined CORE in 2012 and has been working on a wide range of projects, including commercial and multi-family base buildings and complex hospitality interiors. Her skills in using different media, including hand drawings and digital modeling, broaden the canvas of design exploration through different projects. Smriti has experience working on projects of various scales through all phases, from design documentation to construction administration. She has a Master's degree and a Bachelor of Science degree in Architecture from the University of Maryland. Smriti is currently pursuing architectural licensure.
